About the Board of Review

The Board of Review, formerly the Board of Appeals, is responsible for fairly and impartially reviewing all property assessments in Cook County. Those assessments are a key part of the equation that determines a property owner’s tax bill.

If the Board finds an assessment to be incorrect, it has the authority to correct the assessment.

The Board of Review provides a forum for taxpayers to be heard, allowing them to raise concerns specific to the assessment of their own property or that of their block and neighborhood as a whole.

The Board consists of three commissioners, each elected to one of the three districts in Cook County.
